The Peacemaker Virtual Free University (V.F.U.) has no academic structure, pyramid, or hierarchy of learning. The V.F.U. uses the principles and models pioneered by Twelve Step Programs and other "spiritual traditions", as administrative guidelines to arrive at policy decisions, by way of a "G.ood O.rderly D.irection" of our own understanding. As is the case in Recovery Circles there are no leaders and no graduates. V.F.U. does not take the academic inventory of our students. As such, the V.F.U. does not issue Awards, Certificates of Merit, or Degrees and does not recognize the Degree System of "certified universities". We do however offer the seeker an opportunity to "freely inquire" and facilitate that process. All courses, lectures, seminars and study meetings must be prearranged with the facilitators via standard remote learning protocols.

There is in fact a deliberate avoidance of any structure or technique that would facilitate or compel anyone to matriculate, see: "De-Schooling Society" by Ivan Illich. Although the oral Socratic system presented here, may be very difficult to adjust to at first for most students accustomed to "formal education", the gifted student will find more than enough incentive to pursue excellence by merit of the material presented.

Member's suggestions for recognition of outstanding achievement, that establishes new fields of study for others, may be submitted to round table meetings for group conscience approval.

In acknowledgment of this recognition V.F.U. confers the title of "pioneer" or "Pi*".

*Pi = Greek Letter, (Math.) The Symbol representing the ratio of the circumference of circle to the diameter.

The "pi" is similar to the the 12 Step programs medallions that state :

This is neither a reward nor a prize;

it is simply a reminder to be grateful

it is hoped that you will look upon this

as the first milestone on your road to Service;

to help others achieve what you have achieved

The V.F.U. is not free in terms of the "price system", although we be do not set any monetary admission requirements and there are no "formal" tuition fees. The students however are responsible to contribute toward the maintenance of facilities and facilitators on a par with any other institute of higher learning.
